Wananga - sharing knowledge with rangatahi , youth and comparing knowledge with manuhiri, the visitor. 

Tom understands that by instilling simple values, connecting with the land and their Maori culture is a way to belong.  He also knows that one person can connect to many and in doing so can create positive change, around the world.

Small groups of students stay with Kai Waho; the seeds of foundational values that come out matauranga (knowledge) are sown and the opportunity to nurture the seed in their own lives is presented. They leave the experience energised, satisfied and motivated. 

Ako can translate as sometimes the learner, sometimes the teacher and young people teach us as much as we teach them.
